Nature-based solutions insights - Madrid, Amsterdam, and Milan are among cities that listen

Conducted by Climate KIC and presented on 20 October 2020 during the EU Week of Regions and Cities, this multi-city study across Madrid, Amsterdam, and Milan found that citizen participation is a powerful engine for climate action.

In Madrid, thousands engage through the “Decide Madrid” platform proposing, debating, and voting on laws shaping their city. Meanwhile, Amsterdam is pushing for bold targets, cutting emissions by 55% by 2030 and 95% by 2050, with citizens actively co-creating solutions. Milan, alongside 34 global cities, committed to clean air as a human right, turning polluted districts into community-led climate experiments.

From green roofs to urban forests, all those nature-based solutions, designed with citizens, restore ecosystems while making cities healthier and more resilient.
